Hoosiers (1986)

Hoosiers tells the true story of a group of underdogs who become champions. Set in the 1950s, Hoosiers is about a hard-luck, unemployed college basketball coach who gets a chance to coach a small-town Indiana high-school basketball team. Facing resentment from the community and the team itself, the coach manages to inspire his young athletes, leading them to the state championship.   

Coach Carter (2005)

The true-life story of a coach who tries to teach his players that there's more to life than basketball is brought to the screen in this sports drama. Ken Carter was once a star player on the Richmond High School basketball team in Richmond, CA, and years later, after establishing himself in publishing and marketing, he returns to the school and to the team as the new basketball coach. While Carter wants to make the Richmond Cagers into a winning team, he also wants a lot more -- to coach the boys to respect themselves and one another, and that they must excel in the classroom as well as in the gymnasium.  

 

 

Sister Act (1992) 

This comedy tells the hilarious story of how a nightclub singer goes undercover as a nun in the witness protection program.  She struggles to adapt to convent life and since her only talent is singing, is required to join the dysfunctional choir.  The struggling choir members recognize her skill and she is quickly voted in a choir director.  She transforms the group by coaching them to their talents and passions.
