Cars (2006, Pixar Studios) 

This cutting edge, animated family movie is about a rookie race car (Owen Wilson) that has the dream and talent to win the Piston Cup and the coveted Dynaco sponsorship.  Because of an unheard of three way tie in the final race, he must travel across the country to California for the tie-breaker. He is inadvertently sidetracked in a withering town on Route 66 where he learns some important lessons.  Most of the problems the rookie encounters are due to his poor listening skills.  He day-dreams while a senior race car (Richard Petty) give him some pointed advice for winning the cup.  Whenever his pit crew or acquaintances on Route 66 offer their guidance, he barely takes notices and discounts it with an offhand response.  Finally, a least likely rusty tow-truck friend (Larry the cable guy) breaks through the rookie’s self-centered viewpoint and more than one life (or car) is changed for the better.
